I refer to the opinion article "Canadian union wrong to cozy up to regressive regime", published on February 5, 2016, written by Ms. Candice Malcolm. In her article, she questions the Union of Food and Commercial Workers -UFCW-, which the author herself describes as a progressive Union, for having visited Ecuador and had the opportunity to verify the environmental disaster caused there by what is now the transnational oil company Chevron.

Negotiation on final terms of the contract for exploitation in Fruta del Norte, between the government and the Company Lundin Gold is complete. On Thursday, during a press conference, Ron Hochstein, CEO at the Canadian company, highlighted the country’s geological potential and affirmed “investing in Ecuador is a unique opportunity in life.” Fruta del Norte (FDN) is a gold field discovered in 2006, located in the province of Zamora Chinchipe.
